The New Yam Festival, also known as Ikeji or Iri Ji Ohuu, is celebrated within 17 days of September in the city of Arochukwu in Asia State. The festival honours the affirmation of strength and loyalty within communities and is a symbol of the end of one farming season and the beginning of another.
When you know this, you understand why the Emmy Kasbit Spring Summer 2020 Men’s collection, presented by Creative Director, Emmanuel Okoro, has immense flamboyant restraint. With its signature structural suiting offset by colour and juxtaposed with lace and symbolic emblems, the collection pays homage to Ikeji by displaying exceptional craftsmanship through its use of the unique traditional handwoven fabric, Akwete.
Of Joy And Celebration, an apt title for the collection, presents an energetic collection for a modern man with a distinct taste for traditional values and heritage. “This collection has been months in the making,” muses Creative Director, Emmanuel Okoro. “I wanted to tell a story and preserve history in my own way. It is a celebration. I want people to feel joy when they see it.”
Featuring a variety of minor special details, the collection is at best, another testament of the Emmy Kasbit vision for an international man with refined style tastes and its tailoring is to rival any major international brand. Visit Emmy Kasbit for more information and stockist details.
