It’s always a pleasure witnessing Africa packaged for the world by Africans; this month until the end of September 2020, Nomaza Nongqunga-Coupez does exactly that with her presentation of Undiscovered Canvas the Concept Store in the south of France in the quaint town of Antibes.
Undiscovered Canvas is Nomaza’s offering to the world that seeks to provide a platform for African Art and Design talent, serving them to the world for consumption in a tasteful, educational and informative manner – giving culture context and heritage the time and space to develop a narrative for its audience.
Founded in 2017, the road leading up to launching Undiscovered Canvas was not necessarily easy, but it certainly paved the way for an agency with a sense of urgency without relinquishing the importance of quality work with a story to tell.
“Undiscovered Canvas headhunts the best talents from Africa,” muses Founder of Undiscovered Canvas Nomaza Nongqunga-Coupez. “We look for individuals with determination, ambitions, who use technology in innovative ways and who create narratives that are inspiring, educative and are cross-cultural and cross borders.”
In this instalment of Undiscovered Canvas Concept Store, the team has put together a selection of African Creatives spanning Art and Design, featuring the likes of jewellery designer Chantal Mayer, artist Louisa Kruger, accessories maker Ditsala Designs and Creations, fashion brands Rich Factory and GALAGO, and artists Phila Hillie and Phumzile Buthelezi, just to mention a few.
For those of you in France, take a scenic trip into Antibes to view the creations and make a few purchases. For the rest of us outside France, we can follow the story and the works via Undiscovered Canvas’s Instagram account at @undiscovered_canvas.
